Positioning statement: The truth of indie

Frequency of publication: Monthly

Distribution:  Music shops, Supermarkets.

Rationale:  The approach of magazine is for the fans that enjoy indie music; the magazine includes interviews, gig /concert/album reviews and competitions. This will attract my target audience as this is what they would want to know when they read the magazine.

Style:  My magazine will be formal to a certain extent for example the news or a professional review. But however in aspects such as interviews and articles informality will take place. My magazine will include humour to attract target audience and use simple vocabulary along with short paragraphs and slang.

My main image will be a young girl standing in front of the Liverpool skyline. She will be wearing indie like clothes for example skinny jeans and a shirt. Her attitude in the images will be seen as very cool-like, or even chilled. It might include some images of bands and artists around the page. Giving the reader a sense about what is inside.

    How did you use media technologies in the contstruction of your media product?



    

To create my front cover I used Photoshop this was not that difficult to do as I have used it before during my GCSE in year 10. While I was on photoshop I had to use only a few amount of tools as my plan for my front cover was quite simple.This limited my chance to refresh on all the other use of tools photoshop had to offer that I could of used.But as I only had a little while to create this task it shown that I was fairly creative under pressure with the little time that I had to create.I had to use a digital camera to take photos of what I wanted to include in my school magazine such as a student, school equipment and so on. For this task I also had little time to do this, it shown my creativity under pressure and what I could do in little time as with how,where and who im taking the pictures of.Overall in this process of using photoshop I could have took more advantage but I am fairly happy with how my school magazine turned out in the end.

         To create my contents page had to use Quark.For me this was quite difficult to do as I am not familiar with Quark and have never used it before, so it was a bit of a challenge for me.But I had to use Quark as it was very helpful for my contents page and guided me were things I wanted to add should go. I had to do this task in a short amount of time so what I produced in the end I was pleased with as I found Quark quite confusing. I also had to use a digital camera for this to add images which was fairly easy as I am familiar with using cameras.

                                 To conclude I am pleased that I have experimented with different uses of media technologies and hope that in time I will become a lot more confident with them and take a lot more advantage.

This is my front cover for my magazine compared to my sketch there has been a few little changes,for example the price has been changed from free to £1.50,and the issue number and date have changed the position on the magazine.

I decided not to use this image on my magazine as I thought it was too random and had no message to it. 

This is one of my images I took for my front cover, and the one I chose to use as it has plenty of space around it for my coverlines ect.

This was the other image I took for my front cover but chose not use it as I preferd the other image above.

Preliminary excercise: using DTP and an image manipulation program, produced the front page of a new school/college mageazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriatley laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstate their grasp of DTP.

Main task: The front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine.

All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate(s), minimum of four images per candidate.
